I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. It has been a busy beginning of the year. We have been working hard to learn the procedures and routines of the classroom and school.
Since Open House, we have been learning the procedures of changing classes and getting to know the routine of the classes.
Here's what we have been learning in Mrs. Wood's class...
~ Reading: We read a great book entitled Goonie Bird Greene. Our character is a unique second grader who is new to the school. I don't know who had more fun learning about Goonie Bird, myself or the students. She wasn't just entertaining though, she set the stage for our learning about what it takes to be a good story teller. We have used these things to begin learning about the elements and parts of a story, along, with incorburating these things into our writing.
We have also been busy doing Reading Assessments so that reading groups can be formed and established based on levels and needs.
~ Writing: We have been learning about What Good Writer's do and How to be a Good Writer. We are now going through the writing process by writing a Personal Narrative about what we did on the labor day break.
~ Grammar: We have been learning about Nouns and Verbs. We have seen how they are both important in writing complete sentences. With Nouns, we are also learning about Common and Proper Nouns.
~ Social Studies: We have been learning about the 5 regions and 7 major rivers of Georgia. This week we have begun learning about the Creek Indians. We will continue learning about this
